For Super Bowl LIV, the RYOT team rallied to create a custom computer vision algorithm that would recognize football fields. No small task with only a few months to make it all happen. The team travelled to multiple stadiums to capture images and videos that were annotated for training the algorithm. We also developed a SDK of software that was integrated into the NFL’s One Pass app. End users at the Super Bowl launched the “Field Filters”, scanned the football field, and saw stadium-sized, animated 3D graphics showing the NFL’s Next Gen Stats® from big plays and other key gameplay moments. Additional moments were added as they happened throughout the game, and a push notification system let users know they could come back for more..
